The new Jonah Hill (Wolf on Wall Street, 22 Jump Street) project titled ‘Arms and the Dudes’ is set to start filming in the Miami area. The movie is based upon the true story of two young stoners in the Miami area and their rise and fall as gun dealers in Afghanistan. The movie will be directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School) who is best known for his wild sort of hi jinks type movies. As of right now it looks as if the other leading role will be filled by Miles Teller (Whiplash, 12 & Over).
The film seems to be based around the Rolling Stone article written in 2011 by Guy Lawson. The story highlights the lives of two young men and how they got in to the international gun running business and their ultimate demise. The story essentially begins with small defense contracts that land the boys some fast cash but then winds down a slippery slope of bad arms deals and sloppy contract fulfillments. As it would turn out the two men and their partners would be pursued by the State Department. In all the young men exposed loop holes in the State Department’s own business dealings and were caught in an attempt to cover up the government’s own mistakes.
